Parent Involvement at School: How You Can Make a Difference
Your children will become what you are; so be what you want them to be
– David Bly
Ever wondered, why is your child waiting impatiently to share with you all that happens in school every day as soon as you step into the house after the day’s work?
Ever wondered why your smile of approval is the most precious moment of delight and happiness for your child?
Ever wondered why your disappointment or rebuke opens up a watershed of tears which can only cease after your assurance and reassurance that you are not angry with your child anymore.
You are the very first friend, the confidante, the guide, the pillar of support and above all a guiding light who will always show the way that he or she should tread upon.
Parents are the ultimate role models for their child and hence, every word uttered by them, every action or reaction towards a situation has ever lasting impacts on the impressionable young mind of the child. This power entrusted by nature to a parent calls for a very important and responsible role contributing to a well-developed and strong personality of the child. If the parent would want a maximised and wholesome development in his child, then active involvement in this decisive phase of a child’s life is very crucial because…………………..
Each day of our life, we make deposits in the memory bank of our children
– Charles R Swindoll.
It is time that parents make some positive and enriching deposits in the young minds and hearts of our children by supporting them with their presence and encouragement in all school academic and non-academic activities and events whether it is the PTM, Annual Day, Carnival, Sporting events or Subject Days where parents can get engaged and work hand in hand with the teachers and the school in all spheres of a child’s learning and development. This liaison with the school community leaves an everlasting impression on the child’s mind because the only people a child trusts and looks up to beyond his parent or other family members are his teachers in school. By playing a productive role in the child’s school life and actively engaging in all academic and extra- curricular activities, parents are also leaving behind sweet memories to be cherished forever in the child’s canvas of life.
The great aim of education lies in action and not just knowledge- This action is to be sought after by the parent’s partnership with the school and all its activities and events.
